Approaches for Effective Response Outcomes
PROBLEM STATEMENT.
Lived experiences in KwaZulu Natal and other provinces in South Africa show that disaster management (DM) and project management (PM) require improved approaches. While PM approaches have the choice of specifying time, cost, scope, and quality objectives to determine project
success, the same is not the case when dealing with flood damages to infrastructure and livelihoods. The need to assist and protect the public, provide relief, protect property, and roll back disruptions requires agility in PM. DM projects are a race against time to save lives, halt cascading catastrophes and preserve the environment and economy.
In effect, this CIC will examine:
- What are the current PM practices in post-disaster projects?
- What elements of PM practices are most essentials for DM?
- What are the best-known agile project management (APM) approaches?
- How can APM approaches help realise effective outcomes for natural disaster projects?
